Sofa Shopping – the modern labyrinth

A recent trip to several sofa stores has left me feeling like I’ve taken a tour of the Labyrinth to satisfy Asterion’s bull-headed monster(the Minotaur) slain by Theseus in Greek mythology) cannibalistic hunger.

An exaggeration of fact? Perhaps. But the experience has left me thinking that online shopping is possibly the way to go – but how can you tell if a picture is comfy?

The wonder round the stores seemed simple enough when we first walked in – bi, open, airy, well displayed – but as we progressed around (dutifully following the pathway), we found furniture crammed together and display information missing. So then we had to ask the sales people for information, and then they tried the hard sell… we just wanted to sit on a few sofas, take away some measurements, and figure out which one was best for us!

After 4 hours of labyrinth-esque drama, we’ve narrowed it down to 3 – online order to be placed soon!

When you are looking for a new sofa or suite (whichever you prefer to call it) some people decide on the size they want and also a material. Sometimes buying a sofa can often give you benefits such as getting a 2 seat sofa at half price to match your 3 seater, or even an armchair in for free. There are many different options to look at, some sofas come with a buy now and pay in a year offer, so that if you can’t afford one initially you can pay later. Then there is the material to consider, do you want leather? Certain materials are more expensive and the best bit is, the choice is yours!

One of the most exciting things about getting your new place is furnishing for the first time. You may want your dream bed, your dream sofa, a fantastic table and chairs dining set and much more. However if you are on a budget you may want to identify the items you need to be your favourites – and get the best you can, other items you may want to look for cheaper alternatives, often there are swap sites and freebies you can get. Obviously you will want a new bed but in terms of tables, wardrobes etc you could consider second hand stuff unti you can afford something better.

If you are looking to furnish a house then there are so many options available to you. Many people like a modern look to their house or apartment, offering clean pastel colours and striking furniture. One fantastic option is to go for antique furniture for your new place. Antique furniture can come in all shapes and sizes, colours, patterns and materials. There are suites/sofas and couches that are antique, armchairs, cabinets and much more. Wooden chests are my personal favourites along with antique dressers. Dressers can look great in any lounge or kitchen and give the room a fantastic feature to be proud of.

Matching Furniture to a Room

If you are looking to furnish your lounge with a new suite/sofa or whatever you prefer to call it (there are many versions!) then you will need to know what colours and styles will match your room. Maybe you are planning on re-decorating the whole room in which case you can paint the walls and buy furniture to complement one another. Personally I think a lovely dark brown leather sofa looks great with duck egg blue painted walls. Then you can buy extra furniture to go around your new suite including tables, lamps and electrical appliances such as televisions. The choice is yours however!
